Nikola Tesla's life did not end with Nikola Tesla. His work lives around us every day. Every time we turn on a light, power a machine, communicate across great distances, or use technologies he could only imagined, we are living in a world he helped make possible. Even this story- written on a computer and shared across the internet- depends on electricity and technology built up on foundations that pioneers like Tesla helped establish. We may not think about him when we flip a switch, but more than a century later, Nikola Tesla still matters.

Tesla has often been described as a poor businessman. But perhaps that depends on how we choose to measure success. He had opportunities to pursue wealth, yet much of his life was devoted to ideas, discovery, and what technology could do for humanity. Maybe the better question isn't how much money Nikola Tesla made, but how much he gave the world. There is a old question: "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" Tesla's story reminds us that a person's worth cannot always be measured by the money they leave behind.

Sometimes it is measured by what they leave behind for everyone else. Behind the inventions was a human being. Tesla experienced extraordinary successes, but also disappointment, financial struggles, and times when his ideas were misunderstood or overlooked. He continued imagining possibilities that seemed impossible to others. Some of those dreams never became reality during his lifetime, While others helped lay groundwork for technologies that followed. His story is a reminder that recognition does not determine weather a person's life mattered.

Sometimes the true impact of someone's work isn't fully understood until years after they are gone. Nikola Tesla died in a New York hotel with little money and debts behind him. By the standards we often use to measure success, some might look at that and say he failed. I see it differently. I don't believe Tesla's purpose in life was not to become rich. His purpose was to invest his mind, his work, and his life into humanity- to leave the world better than he found it.

Maybe that is the part of his story means so much to me. It reminds me of my father. My fathers goal was never to become rich either. He simply wanted to make life a little better for those people around him. Tesla changed humanity on enormous scale; my father changed the lives of people around him. Their lives were very different, but they taught me something similar: the value of a person's life isn't measured by the amount of money they accumulate. It is measured by what they give to others and what remains because they were here. That is why Nikola Tesla matters to me. And that is why his story belongs on Because They Matter.
